Digital Meeting
This month in the digital meeting with Psicotec we have one of our HR consultants, you can ask him all kind of questions related to employment and Human Resources. Introduce your question here.
The presentation letter is the introduction to the Résumé. It gives the person responsible for the selection the first notion of us. Bear in mind that it can make a favourable impression, or create a negative predisposition towards our candidacy, for example, as a result of presenting a photocopied letter, or a letter where punctual information can be modified to adapt it to every specific work application.
Do not forget that the letter is always read, although it could be done mechanically, that is the reason you must try to omit any orthographic, typewriting errors, etc.
There exist two types of presentation letters:
The one that is sent, along with the C.V., as an answer to concrete offers of employment.
The ones that do not respond to any particular job offers.
Common elements of both types of letters:
Do not repeat the same things that you will include in your C.V.; nevertheless, you can use the letter to highlight the aspects or qualities that satisfy the requests of the position.
Avoid an excessively effusive tone, both in the greeting and in the interest that you demonstrate.
It is suitable to direct it to a concrete person, avoiding generic recipients.
It is important to indicate two or three significant characteristics or strong points which will give benefits to the company in case of hiring us.
The structure of the letter includes a beginning, (indicating why are you directing towards the company), a reference to your fortitudes and to your interest in the company, a reference to the résumé that you enclose, and finally to stay at the disposal of the company (for later contacts, interviews, etc.).
Forget about typewriters, use computer only.
It is suitable to send the letter and the C.V. without folding it up too much.
Say goodbye without too many gestures and sign the letter.
In the second type of such lettres (the ones where you are not interested in a particular job offer) it is also important:
- To specify what are you searching for: in which department or functional area is your desire to be employed. Do not leave the topic opened without specifying minimally your target.
- To personalize the letter the best way possible, it is necessary to avoid the situation when the reader gets a sensation that he is reading one of the "mass production" letters. You can put the name of the company, sector that the company belongs to and demonstrate your interest in developing your professional career within the company, etc.
We have developed a model of a presentation letter. You can follow the example but you should personalize it.
