As every year, after swallowing the last grape, 99 % of the population start preparing a list of good intentions for the year 2011. It can be shorter or longer than the other years but it is always full of the best ones.

The intentions can be of all kinds, but the majority of them are usually quite the same: to stop smoking (especially now with the new anti-smoking law), to sign up to a gym in order to lose a few kilos, to improve our English, to be on better terms with the in-laws … but there are occasions in which, in moments like now, in the beginning of year, a beginning of a course or even an environment of crisis we are living in, something lights up inside us, and the intentions that we have become much more relevant, this way taking us to a crucial turning point in our life.

My intention for the year 2011, my modest turning point, is more related to my experience and the routine of every day. With this article I would like to create a space that would allow me to reflect, share and even, sometimes, generate a debate to express other points of view to contrast with, in addition to my own. I would like to be able to understand the things that happen in the world. I must admit that although all the things I have seen and experienced have left a mark on my life, I still can not give them an explanation. From now on, I will not remain with doubts, I will try to figure out the reason why, this way getting to know better the people I meet.

During the last months we have seen and read many things about the causes and consequences of the crisis. Nevertheless, today, with the raised topic of the intentions, I am going to talk about people who felt a change inside them and from this moment are experiencing a turning point in their lives. Of course, this light inside us can appear only by chance, or it can be simply provoked by the circumstances. In this case I refer to Beatriz, who has become unemployed because her company due to some economic problems has reduced the staff. This has made her think if what she had been doing was really what she wanted to do. Now she is in the United States, realizing a Master's degree that will open a way for her to a new market. I refer to my friend Eva, who after many years of working in an agency, has decided to leave everything in order to become a chef of haute-cuisine and to devote herself to the world of the restoration. I think about Pedro, my classmate that being 36 years old, after having been employed for nearly eight years, as project manager in a cement company, has begun to study a new degree, seeking for a paid internship. Luis, who almost without having any budget, has set up a business based on importing goods on Internet. The true thing is that I am thinking about all the people that, in these complicated moments, still have a positive view of things. Being ready to face new challenges, they say to themselves “why not?” this way heading towards something they have always wanted to do. From this moment, the success of the intention and the possibility of a turning point that will leave a mark on the rest of their lives, lays in their hands.
